Los santos inocentes (The Holy Innocents)

This adaptation of the novel of the same name by Miguel Delibes is one of the outstanding examples of the cinematographic policies of the eighties, which sought new readings on the eternal dialogue between cinema and literature in order to highlight the main themes and concerns of Spanish culture. The film by Mario Camus got an immediate support at the Cannes Festival where the two main actors, Alfredo Landa and Paco Rabal were awarded the ex aequo prize. . The story of the family of Paco "el Bajo", who lives in a farmhouse in Extremadura, still moves the audience as a story of a rural, inherited and wild Spain, which unfortunately is not so far back in time.
