The Spanish Armada Prisoners

The Spanish Armada Prisoners Alejandro Chinchilla

Until today, studies on the Spanish Armada of 1588 have been debated in technical, political, strategic or archaeological disquisitions, ignoring the final destination of almost three thousand men (uncounted until now) who were captured during this expedition. Many of these prisoners lived through a tragic epic in Ireland that the author of the book "Los prisioneros de la Armada" (The Spanish Armada Prisoners), Pedro Luis Chinchilla, has rescued in a story focused on the most human aspect of this story.

Chinchilla will present at the Instituto Cervantes in Dublin that stoy: the circumstances of their capture, the places where they were held and their final destination. An overwhelming story that deserved to be told.

Presented by María Luisa Guerrero and Declan Downey.

Pedro Luis Chinchilla Muñoz (Yecla, 1968) is an independent researcher on the Armada of 1588 and creator of armadainvencible.org, platform for its study and dissemination. Lecturer and collaborator in different media, he has publicised the story of the "Invincible Armada" in commemorative events in memory of this epic story. Both in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland it has had a notable echo, promoting a reliable recovery of these historical events and the revival of the Armada’s links with small Irish rural communities.
