Introduction to literary translation, with Nuria Barrios
What skills do you need if you want to engage in literary translation? Writer and translator Nuria Barrios, author of La impostora, a prizewinning essay on translation, will lead this workshop combining theory and practice. Participants will discover the subtle second writing that is translation, what it consists of, what skills it requires, what tools may help achieve a good result, and how translation turns out to be a panoramic bridge for reflecting on authorship, feminism, precariousness, identity, and all that Lydia Davis called entering another person. At the end of the workshop, each participant will complete a small translation (English-Spanish, Spanish-English).
