Although we don’t need an excuse to honour Julio Ramón Ribeyro, we want to celebrate his recent 90th birth anniversary and his 25th death anniversary with a talk around this prominent Peruvian author of 20th century’s Hispanic literature. His fellow citizen and writer Renato Cisneros will reveal the reasons why Ribeyro is considered one of the most relevant storytellers in Latin America and how he came to stand out in all his works: novel, essay, drama, diary and aphorism.

Not surprisingly, the publishing house Seix Barral reedited in 2019 three of his major works: the complete collection of short stories The word of the speechless, his diary The temptation of failure and the unclassifiable Prosas apátridas (Stateless prose).

Join us to discover or rediscover a real classic of 20th century’s Latin-American narrative whose works have been translated into English (The Word of the Speechless. Selected Stories), French, German, Italian, Dutch and Polish.

Renato D. Cisneros Sánchez (Lima, Peru, 1976) is a journalist, writer, poet and TV/radio broadcaster. He debuted as a poet with Ritual de los prójimos (1999) and after releasing another two collections of poems, a short story book (Busco novia) and the agenda La antiagenda (2010), in 2010 he published his first novel (Nunca confíes en mí), which was followed by Raro (2012) and two autobiographical works, La distancia que nos separa (2015) (The Distance Between Us, 2018) and Dejarás la tierra (2017). In 2019 he published a non-fiction diary, Algún día te mostraré el desierto, about the experience of being a father.

This event is organised by the Embassy of Peru in Ireland. Conducted by Marilú Castillo.
