Flamenco
In this 10-week workshop you will immerse in the wonderful world of traditional flamenco and fandango music and dance. We will explore their fascinating origins and various styles. Bulerías are the popular Andalusian flamenco songs which underpin flamenco. Most can be danced to. They originate from a type of Andalusian folk song called la soleá and can vary in rhythm and pace from region to region. For instance, bulerías from Jerez have a distinctive rhythm which differs from those typical of Cádiz. Similarly, fandango has many regional variations between pure music and a combination of music and dance. You will learn how to distinguish between them over the course of the workshop.
Each session is one and a half hours long. The first part will focus on technique and warm up. It will also introduce the main Flamenco styles or palos for dance. Instruction will include basic footwork technique, arms and body technique, posture and appreciation of Flamenco rhythm and expression.
Continuation of the 2016 autumn workshop. New students and all levels welcome.
Fee: €150. 10 weeks (no class on 22/02). More info: bookings.dublin@cervantes.es.
