Flamenco. Third Session

Flamenco. Third Session Roberto García

In this third workshop of the year we will learn about Tangos from Málaga, focusing in Tangos del Piyayo and Tangos de la Repompa, originated in one of the most emblematic neighbourhoods of the city and place where are born most of the flamenco roots associated to Málaga. Their origin is unclear, as they may be considered ida y vuelta styles, of Afro-Cuban influence, but they are also linked to Tangos from Granada or Aires de Guajiras in Tango rhythm. They are both festive palos, of binary rhythm as the Cuban Tangos. This term will also allow for learning about other traditional Málaga dances such as Verdiales.

As usual, we will study the technique of tapping, the use of the skirt as a means while dancing, posture in flamenco, arm and hand movement and rhythm. The rich history behind the different styles will also be covered.
