Spanish Cinema Day: Tasio

Once again, we celebrate Spanish Cinema Day, turning to our cinematic heritage as an essential source for understanding our 20th-century visual culture. For this fifth edition, we will screen "Tasio," a film directed by Montxo Armendáriz.

The movie portrays the decline of the charcoal burners' tradition in the mountains of Navarre, Spain. Undoubtedly one of the most memorable films for Spanish cinema lovers, it exquisitely and naturalistically approaches a world that seems to be fading away, being abandoned. Yet, its protagonist and his family resist the onslaught of modernity and its various forms of coercion.
