Cervantes Dublin Theatre Club: Quirófano (3)

The theatre club will continue working on the play Quirófano (Operating Theatre) by playwright Almudena Ramírez-Pantanella. The participants will get to know and reflect on this play that uses racism as a focal point for exploring human relationships. Set in an operating theatre, with masks and scalpels as a metaphor, it invites debate on nationality, identity and other issues addressed with the powerful lyricism characteristic of the author.

Students will delve into the characters, analysing their situation, conflicts, emotional processes, character, motivations and relationships with others. Based on the text, voice and body as expressive tools, each participant will stage a scene to practically understand the themes of the play.

Sandra Villegas has an academic background in drama and theatre, and in early childhood education. She has taught theatre workshops for all ages. For eight years, she taught World Drama in the Arts Department of Dublin’s Business School and has worked for Gymboree Play & Music for more than ten years. Currently, Sandra is an Assistant Teacher of early childhood education at Nord Anglia International School Dublin. Sandra has been the director of the Cervantes Dublin Theatre Club since 2015.
