Cervantes Dublin Theatre Club: Comedy

Using classic and modern texts, workshop participants will have the opportunity to investigate and learn how comedy authors propose diverse situations and plots, as well as a variety of characters, in order to make the audience laugh.

During the sessions, the function of comedy will be explored, attention will be paid to various humorous procedures and mechanisms, both in situations, space and language of the texts and in the characters proposed by the playwrights. Participants will explore the joke as a simple form of humor, the stage comedy that contains a more complex plot with ironies, confusions and sarcasm, or the farce. In addition, students will work on body expression through improvisations to learn to master their bodies and find how the characters in the texts would express themselves with their different nuances.

The workshop aims to provide tools to understand the ins and outs of comedy which, in addition to being an art to make the audience laugh, can function as an essential communication tool to break down barriers, face taboos and challenge what is prohibited.
