Flamenco Dance, introductory level to Verdiales & Castanets

This workshop is designed for people with no previous experience who wish to begin learning flamenco dance. During the sessions, participants will learn the fundamental elements, including footwork technique, arm movements, body expression, and a simple choreography. The workshop also includes a cultural and technical introduction to the Verdiales and the use of castanets. It is designed to develop coordination, sense of rhythm, and musicality in an accessible and motivating environment.

The Verdiales of Málaga are one of the oldest forms of Andalusian folklore and are traditionally performed at popular celebrations. They have a lively, joyful rhythm, with a dynamic dance that includes agile steps and expressive arm and wrist movements. Castanets play an essential role, marking the rhythm and reinforcing the festive character of this style.

The workshop will be taught by Sandra Palomar, a professional flamenco dancer from Motril, Granada, with extensive experience in flamenco and a regular teacher at the Instituto Cervantes Dublin. Her approach combines technical precision, body awareness, and artistic expression, offering a strong foundation for those beginning their flamenco journey.

An ideal opportunity to discover flamenco and enjoy the energy and tradition of the Verdiales and castanets.
