Flamenco Dance Improvers: Tarantos & Levante styles

This workshop is designed for students with previous flamenco dance experience, and proper flamenco shoes are required. During the sessions, students will work on footwork technique, arm movements, body expression, and a choreography, as well as a cultural and technical introduction to the Taranto and the Levante styles. It is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the flamenco language while continuing to develop technique and musicality.

The Taranto is a flamenco style originating in Almería, closely linked to the mining songs of southeast Spain. Unlike the taranta, from which it derives and which has a free rhythm, the taranto has a measured rhythm that allows it to be adapted for dance. It is usually performed in the Phrygian mode, which gives it a deep and solemn character. The dance is sober and expressive, with strong, grounded movements that convey emotional intensity, accompanied by the guitar’s dense and resonant sound.

The workshop will be taught by Sandra Palomar, a professional flamenco dancer from Motril, Granada, with extensive experience in flamenco. She is a regular teacher at the Instituto Cervantes in Dublin and holds a degree in Sports Science, as well as certifications as a Yoga and Pilates instructor. Her teaching approach combines technical precision, body awareness, and artistic expression.

A unique opportunity to continue progressing in flamenco dance and to connect with the depth and expressive power of the Taranto.
