10,000 Miles by Bike
We invite you to meet Galician author Xabier Cid, who will discuss his book 10,000 Miles by Bike, where he narrates his experiences as a traditional bicycle food delivery rider between 2018 and 2020 in the Scottish cities of Stirling and Glasgow. The talk will offer a glimpse into his career and the context of contemporary Galician literature.
Xabier Cid will chat with Irish poet based in Galicia, Keith Payne, and Galician poet and professor at University College Cork, Martín Veiga.
Xabier Cid is a Galician author, translator, and philologist with a Master’s degree in Sports Management. He has lived in Scotland and Spain, working in diverse fields, from teaching to journalism and entrepreneurship. Is the author of the novella Terá as túas balas (2000) and the book 10,000 Miles by Bike (2022). A candidate in the 2016 Galician Parliament elections, he won the Carral City Council Poetry Award in 2018 for As bicis (2019).
Martín Veiga is a poet, translator, and senior lecturer at University College Cork, where he also directs the Irish Centre for Galician Studies. He has published six individual poetry books in Galician.
Keith Payne is the author of ten collections of poetry in translation and original poetry, most recently Building the Boat (Badly Made Books, 2023. Whales and Whales, from the Galician of Luisa Castro, was published in 2024.
