Being Latinx in STEM
We live in a complex world, where science and technology do not exist and can not be taught in a vacuum. Traditionally, the movers and shakers in the myriad STEM fields have been straight, white, and masculine. With this in mind, and with an eye towards the future, how can non-white students and young scientists navigate STEM spaces that were not built with them in mind?
In order to develop solutions and strategies we must first hold space for critical, inclusive conversations to happen, where lived experiences can be shared. Only then can the traditional STEM narratives be transformed so that they uplift, celebrate, recognize, and invite people with diverse backgrounds!
We are excited to host Dr. Maldonado and Dr. Perez to dig into this important topic. We will also moderate a discussion on redefining STEM spaces with our guest speakers as well as answer audience questions. Please join us as we discuss the issues that the Latinx community faces in STEM, and how we can foster inclusivity, equity, and long-term success for Latine-identifying people.
