Piazzolla 100 in the Midwest
The Piazzolla Foundation, directed by Laura Escalada Piazzolla (Astor Piazzolla's wife) has organized the extensive “Piazzolla 100” program to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the maestro at the hands of two of his grandchildren, the vice president of the Piazzolla Foundation, Daniel Villaflor Piazzolla and the drummer Daniel Pipi Piazzolla, leader of the Escalandrum jazz group. On the 100th anniversary of his birth, more than 100 initiatives around the world will celebrate his music: Concerts in Chicago, Elgin, Berlin, London, Madrid, New York, Rio de Janeiro and Paris, among others, fulfilling the dream of the Argentine musician to "Impose the music of my country on the whole world." The Instituto Cervantes of Chicago has coordinated the Midwest program with the collaboration of the Piazzolla Foundation, Piazzolla 100, the Chicago Sinfonietta, the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, and with the support of the General Consulate of Argentina. in Chicago and the International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago.
