Hispanic Heritage Month
From September 15 to October 15, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States. It is an important commemoration, acknowledging and celebrating the achievements and contributions of Hispanics in this country for over 3 centuries, since Spaniards first discovered and explored the western hemisphere. The celebration of our nation’s Hispanic heritage was first approved as a one-week celebration by a joint resolution of the United States Congress on September 17, 1968. Twenty years later, on August 17, 1988, President Ronald Reagan renewed this observance with a call for a broader recognition of Hispanic Americans. Congress passed Law 100-402, which extended the one week celebration to 31 days, from September 15 to October 15, and proclaimed it National Hispanic Heritage Month. Join us as the United States celebrates the culture and traditions of the Hispanic citizens of this country with roots in Spain, Mexico, and all of Latin America.
