Conceived and directed by Sándor Menéndez and written by Rey Andújar, and inspired by the life of the incomparable Lupe Victoria Yolí Raymond—better known as La Lupe, the Queen of Latin Soul—La gran tirana (dramatic descarga) explores the artist’s journey as an immigrant, and the ways in which art, and music in particular, can become a form of homeland. Synopsis Ana Morgana is an immigrant, an outcast, but above all an artist. She transcends her everyday reality by imagining herself as a star: La Lupe. Through the songs of the legendary performer and by retelling the turbulent life of the diva as if it were her own, Morgana constructs her identity by inhabiting that of another.
