THE ANDALUSIAN, the Spanish Horse

THE ANDALUSIAN, the Spanish Horse Jordi Pedrola

The Spanish horse is known for its anatomical strength as well as its rhythmic harmony and elegance of movement and temperament. Since the 18 Century, The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art in Jerez & the Spanish Riding School in Viennahave kept alive this unique art of dressage, where horse and riderdemonstrate a reciprocal cerebral connection.

The tradition of these magnificent animals provide expressionistic artist Jordi Pedrola an opportunity to display the color and beauty of the Andalusian horses both in large oils on canvas and works on paper.

Jordi Pedrola believes color is the spiritual expression of light.

Jordi Pedrola is a Chicago artist originally from Barcelona, Spain. After graduating in 1992 from the University of Barcelona (Sant Jordi Royal Academy) he studied at the Winchester School of Art (Britain), ultimately receiving a fellowship from the John David Mooney Foundation and, later, the Lorado Taft Award (Cliff Dwellers), which brought him to Chicago in 1995.

Jordi Pedrola’s paintings can be seen in 10 different countries, including Dubai, Cyprus, Italy, Germany, Spain, Britain, Ireland, Canada, and Colombia as well as throughout the United States from Palm Beach, FL to Santa Barbara, CA. He also has works on permanent display in collections including The Khalif Burj Tower in Dubai and The Muskegon Museum of Art in Michigan.

Jordi Pedrola’s paintings are representations of expression, emotion and poetry. His horse portraits define movement, power and rhythm. His commissioned portraits try to capture the personality of his models. He never uses digital techniques, rather working with paints that he makes using the same techniques as the historic masters.
