Built around eight sequence shots, Julio Medem’s daring new film explores the tribal history of 20th Century Spain through two characters born on the same day, kilometers apart: Octavio and Adela. When they first meet, Octavio is a supporter of Franco’s nationalists and Adela the daughter of a Republican schoolteacher later executed by a firing squad. Their lives will intertwine in the shape of the number 8 for the next 90 years. A companion piece to his critically acclaimed "Lovers of the Arctic Circle" (1998), Medem once again offers a love story bigger than life that transcends time and space.
