¡Bernarda!
Coinciding with Teatro Vista’s world-premiere at Steppenwolf Theatre 1700 of ¡Bernarda! by Emilio Williams, Instituto Cervantes Chicago is hosting a special roundtable discussion.
Madrid-born playwright Williams will discuss the influence of Federico García Lorca in his life and work, and how this re-imagining of the classic The House of Bernarda Alba came to be.
The literature professor Gema Ortega from Dominican University will discuss how this new version departs from the original while being faithful to some of its essence.
The Producing Artistic Director of Teatro Vista, Wendy Mateo will discuss the process of setting up and directing this maverick production starring an all-Latina cast and designed by an all-female creative team. The discussion will be moderated by Carson Becker, Artistic Director of Chicago Dramatists.
The celebration will include a tasting of Spanish wines.
