"The Plot" (or La Parcela) is the name given by the protagonist—a literature professor recently arrived in Boulogne-sur-Mer—to the immense migrant camp sprawling across the port of Calais. That plot of land, which others maliciously refer to as 'the jungle,' is now home to Nizar, a Syrian immigrant hoping to cross into England in search of dignity. In brief chapters, the story's narrator and protagonist weaves his own emotional struggles and family memories into the various threads that life unfolds during his French adventure.
