Kharaysin, a settlement of the first shepherds and farmers in Jordan
A team of Spanish archaeologists from various institutions, led by the Spanish National Research Council (IMF-CSIC), has been excavating at the site of Kharaysin (Zarqa) since 2014. At Kharaysin, they are studying how human societies evolved from nomadic hunter-gatherers to sedentary farmers and herders. This happened between 11,000 and 9,000 years ago. Jordan, along with other Middle Eastern countries, was the place where these changes first took place in the world. This talk will discuss how these populations were built and how they reflect the structure of their pastoral and agricultural societies.
