Christian d’Auchamp was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1942. Ever since childhood, painting and drawing have been important interests for him. During his 35 years of diplomatic career, this passion was exercised often. In Bucharest, he published a book with drawings and water colours of the old parts of the town, and in London he participated in the Diplomatic Art Exhibition. Only after retiring from the Danish Foreign Office and settling in Spain, in 2006 he followed regular painting classes at the Jesuit University of Comillas in Madrid. In 2015 he won the first prize in the university's yearly painting exhibition. The following year he earned an honourable mention as well; this painting is shown at the exhibition. Christian’s wife took up a position at the Spanish Embassy in Amman in 2016, and, since then, Christian has been inspired to depict many impressions from Jordan on canvas. A number of these paintings, as well as some previous ones, are shown at the Instituto Cervantes in the current exhibition. Jordan is host to a fascinating multitude of cultural and historical heritage which can truly influence and inspire a foreign observer. It is Christian’s hope that the paintings exhibited reflect some of this magnitude!
