The archaeological site of Kharaysin: the first houses of mankind

The archaeological site of Kharaysin: the first houses of mankind Luis Teira

A team of Spanish archaeologists from various institutions, led by the Higher Council for Scientific Research (IMF-CSIC), has been excavating at the Kharaysin site (Zarqa) since 2014. In Kharaysin, the team studies how human societies went from being nomadic hunter-gatherers to sedentary farmers and ranchers. This happened between 11,000 and 9,000 years ago. Jordan, along with other Middle Eastern countries, was the place where these transformations took place for the first time around the world. The Spanish archaeologists will focus during the talk on how the first houses that were built by those dwellers were like and how they reflect the structure of their society.
