Spanish wines: La Rioja

Rioja is Spain’s most famous wine area. With its centenary history, hundreds of wineries and dramatic new styles, Rioja is now more exciting and diverse than ever. This seminar will introduce participants to Rioja’s history, climate, soils, and grape varieties, especially Tempranillo, the country’s best. Students will also get acquainted with the different Rioja wine styles, get to know the latest developments, and taste some of Rioja’s top wines, focusing on its distinctive reserva, gran reserva and modern stars. We will also look at the new wines of neighboring Basque Country, Navarra and Aragón.
