Spanish wines: from Priorat to Sherry
This tasting seminar covers the wine areas that run along Spain’s Mediterranean coast from Catalonia down to Andalusia, focusing especially on the sought-after cult wines of Priorat. In just two decades this ancient and tiny region has gone from obscurity to international stardom. Taking advantage of its unique brown slate soils, harsh climate and old vines, cutting-edge winemakers have created fascinating, powerful and expensive reds that rival anything made in Spain and abroad. Their success represents the most important quality event in the country since the 1970s, and has inspired countless winemakers in other wine regions along the coast from Montsant to Jumilla that we will survey as well. We will also overview the world-class fortified wines of Sherry, Spain’s most original and distinctive wine creation
