Gregoria
The woman who stars in this story may seem fragile, but we may be looking at one of the last representatives of a lineage of powerful women who have sustained our communities for centuries. In contrast to our world of rampant consumerism, she needs very little to live: a piece of land, a box in which to display her wares, and a friendly chat.
Celia Viada follows her protagonist, an example of austerity and dignity, on her journey and portrays her with tenderness and respect, as demonstrated by the apt summary hidden in the acknowledgments at the end of the short film: “To all the Gregorias who manage to live as they please.” No more, no less.
Synopsis: Gregoria has a crooked back, strong hands, and black fingernails. She lives bent over the earth and needs very little: a piece of land, some recycled plastic boxes, and a friendly conversation at the end of the afternoon. [Source: Distribution with Glasses].
