Rendezvous with Cinema: «Bidasoa, 2018-2023»
The second session of this year's virtual club, Rendezvous with Cinema, is dedicated to the documentary Bidasoa, 2018-2023, directed by the singer, producer and now film director Fermín Muguruza.
The film, which combines animation with words, tells the heartbreaking story hidden behind the Bidasoa River, a painful testimony to the sleeping voices of migrants who tried to find a decent life elsewhere and were unable to.
Synopsis
The police control and closure of some crossings on the natural Pyrenean-Atlantic border of the Bidasoa imposed by France in the summer of 2018, to prevent the entry of immigrants in transit to other European countries, caused ten deaths in one year. Seven people have died since April 2021 after drowning in the waters of the Bidasoa River between Irun and Hendaia, and another three lost their lives in October 2021 after being run over by a train in Ziburu.
