Don Quixote de La Mancha

If the masterpiece of Cervantes was considered a monument of the Spanish language, and its main character the incarnation of Hispanic essences, how could a movie be faithful to a work so complex and rich in suggestions? In short, which Don Quijote could be provided to a public that, lest we forget, in general only knew the character vaguely and indirectly?

Rafael Gil and his scriptwriter, Antonio Abad Ojuel, aware of the difficulty of the representation in 1948, recognized that they could only make a synthesis of the work.

It is, therefore, a film that effectively responds to what was expected at the time: to offer a very attached to the book interpretation, without an ambiguous sense around the knight charater nor dangerous expressive deviations -as happens in subsequent adaptations- and filmically settle an iconography well known by viewers through a variety of popular sources.

The Instituto Cervantes Sydney will present the film as part of the Film Cycle called "Don Quixote in the movies"
