Marta's journey

Marta's journey Xavier Clavijo

After her acclaimed film La plaga, which skillfully grappled with the narrative limits of the documentary, director Neus Ballús embarks on a work of fiction shot entirely in Senegal, where she reveals the still difficult confrontation of values between European tourists and the local inhabitants who receive the visit of these "impertinent onlookers." The story also accompanies the young Marta towards maturity, in a rite of passage that will push her to understand each other and to re-establish ties with her father and brother. From his gaze, the film forces us to look towards that strange world of contrasts that still shows the encounter between north and south.
