Profiles of the US Spanish
This lecture searches for traits in the Spanish language that make it a particularly distinct language, specifically in how exists within the United States. We pay careful attention to the current state of the Spanish language in the United States in relation to the concepts of diglossia and koiné . We will also see the dynamism that emerges from the natural friction with English as they share one same geography.
Speech for the incorporation as a full member of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE). Silvia Betti (Alma Mater Studiorum-Università di Bologna and correspondent of ANLE in Italy) will introduce Francisco Moreno Fernández; Domnita Dumitrescu (California State University and ANLE) will give the inaugural response. Gerardo Piña-Rosales, director of ANLE, will hand the new academic his full membership diploma and will be awarded with the institution’s medal.
