Masters of Wine: Rioja, From Gran Reserva to Modern Styles

Rioja is Spain’s most important wine region. Its long history and current developments make it more exciting and diverse than ever. Since the 19th century, the pride of Rioja were their traditional Gran Reserva wines. But in the last three decades, a new generation of talented winemakers started making ambitious wines in dramatic new styles. Recently, Rioja has introduced village and single vineyard denominations. This first tasting of the year will focus on the brilliant wineries and winemakers responsible for the most remarkable wines of Rioja.
