KHORIKOS & Javier Farias in Concert
KHORIKOS ensemble will be presenting the world premiere of Javier Farias' newest work, "Cantos de vida nueva," and a cappella work based on the poem "The New Life" by Raul Zurita. Latin American choral music has long been underrepresented and relatively inaccessible in the US. The emsemble will present this program of South American and Spanish music at Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with the Consulate General of Chile. Thanks to the assistance of Aurelio Tello (Mexico) and Dante Andreo (Argentina/Spain), you will be able to enjoy rare works by Gaspar Fernandes (Portugal), Cristobal de Morales (from the newly discovered Codex 25) and Beatriz Corona. Mr. Farias' work as a composer includes over forty works and has won first place in European contests, including the Andres Segovia (Spain, 2005) with his "Returns," and the Michele Pittaluga (Italy, 2004) with his "Sonata for Guitar." In December 2003, Farias was named "Best Composer" of the Modern Orchestra of Chile for his work "Dezlía," written for group flamenco, jazz ensemble and string orchestra. From 2005 to 2008, he was invited by Wake Forest University, Hartt School of Music, Trinity College, North Carolina School of Arts and George Washington University among others, to present his compositions "The flight of your soul" and "5 facades."
