Spain in Cuba

Spain in Cuba Centro Cultural Cubano de Nueva York.

The Cuban Cultural Center of New York presents its 19th annual conference, this year titled España en Cuba: Un ir y venir, celebrating the deep cultural ties between Cuba and Spain, from the arrival of Columbus on the Island in 1492 until the present, with special emphasis on the main migration waves from different parts of Spain—Asturias, Galicia, the Canary Islands, Catalonia, the Basque Country and Andalusia—that notably influenced the ethnic composition of the Cuban people throughout history, highlighting the most salient aspects of its cultural legacy, including its architecture, literature, gastronomy, and music. The conference will also delve into the reciprocal and relatively unknown role played by Cuba in the historical development of some regions of Spain, as well as into the contributions and influence of Spanish associations on the Island since colonial times.
