Book Day Celebration / Cervantine Week 2025: Voices from Central America
On the occasion of Book Day, Wednesday, April 23, 2025, we propose a special celebration that will give visibility to Central American authors from New York. Our goal is to promote awareness and appreciation of one of the most thriving, diverse and promising literatures in Spanish today. Through different activities, we will explore the richness of Central American literature in its multiple manifestations, from realist narrative to genre literature, including the fantastic, the lyric of the everyday and the exploration of language.
Wednesday, April 23: Round table on Central American literature with the participation of three guest writers, David Unger, curator of the program, Denise Phe-Funchal, from Guatemala, and Fatima Villalta, from Nicaragua.
Thursday, April 24: A day dedicated to the analysis of the political situation in Central America and its relationship with the United States, with the participation of renowned writers and analysts Jonathan Blitzer, Francisco Goldman and Salvadoran writer Oscar Martinez.
Friday, April 25: Space for music with a performative show that will address sound expression, with the participation of Costa Rican Felipe Fournier.
Saturday, April 26: Encounter with young audiences through a puppet show, thus bringing Central American literature closer to new generations of readers. There will also be a storytelling session.
