A portrait of the streets of New York: Past, present and future

A portrait of the streets of New York: Past, present and future Beatriz Cifuentes

We interviewed Spaniards and Latin Americans living in New York City, during these incomprehensible times and unpredictable future. In the interviews, we discussed their expectations, projects, and uncertainties. This initiative captures a versatile portrait of The City of Dreams which, for the first time in its history, has been forced to stop—urging individuals to reflect at a personal and collective level. One-fifth of New York's residents are of Hispanic background, a population that is being particularly affected by the current situation. Instituto Cervantes New York is faithful to its commitment to promote the language and cultures in Spanish working alongside the community. This project proposes a journey through different neighborhoods of this iconic city, which is already considered home by our interviewees. A kaleidoscope of voices, dreams and desires, of a vibrant community united by a language and culture shared by twenty nationalities.
