Celebrating Lía Schwartz

Celebrating Lía Schwartz Instituto Cervantes Nueva York

Lía Schwartz, who proudly boasted having been Borges's student at the University of Buenos Aires in her native Argentina, was, along with Gonzalo Sobejano and her husband, the also Hispanicist Isaías Lerner, the great ambassador for literature studies at the Universities of the New York City, where she culminated her teaching career at the CUNY Graduate Center, where she was a Distinguished Professor in Comparative Literature and directed the Doctoral Program in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literature and Language.

Her teaching extended a bridge between the two shores of the Atlantic, giving courses and lectures at numerous American and European universities. In 2016, she was appointed as Academy Correspondent Member of Royal Spanish Academy.
