100th year anniversary of the birth of Carmen Martín Gaite

December 8, 2025 will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Carmen Martín Gaite, one of the most important Spanish novelists of the 20th century. This roundtable will celebrate the beginning of what would be her 100th year, as well as the ties she established throughout her life with New York City, particularly through her collage notebook Visión de Nueva York, the short novel Caperucita en Manhattan, and the poem “Todo es un cuento roto en Nueva York” (Everything is a Broken Tale in New York). We will discuss the English translations of her work, and reflect on the ties that continue to bind her to this city.
