Discovering Spanish Authors
The writers Manuel Vilas and Ana Merino will participate in the literature festivals “Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters" in Kerala and the “Alliance Literary Festival" in Bengaluru. In the New Delhi center, the well-known authors will hold a conference that will consist of the presentation of their works with the session being moderated by Prof. Vijaya Venkataraman.
About Ana Merino
Ana Merino is a writer. She directs the Cátedra Planeta of Literature and Society at the International University of Valencia-VIU. She has been a Professor of Creative Writing and Cultural Studies at the University of Iowa, where in 2011 she founded the MFA in creative writing in Spanish, which she directed until December 2018. Winner of the 2020 Nadal Prize for the novel El mapa de los afectados (Destino, 2020), she has also published the novel Amigo (Destino, 2022) and is an outstanding poet with eight poetry collections: Preparativos para un viaje (Rialp 1995, Adonais Prize, 2nd ed. Reino de Cordelia), Los días gemelos (Visor 1997), La voz de los relojes (Visor 2000), Juegos de niños (Visor 2003, Premio Fray Luis de León), Compañera de celular (Visor 2006), Curación (Visor 2010), Los buenos recursos (Visor 2015), Salvamento de hormigas (Visor 2022) and the anthology Los pasos de la cordura (Reino de Cordelia, 2023). She has two children's poetry books Hagamos caso al tigre (Anaya 2010) and El viaje del vikingo soñador (Santillana 2015). She is also the author of the young adult novels El hombre de los dos corazones (Anaya 2009) and Planeta Lasvi (Siruela, 2024), the plays, Amor: muy frágil (Reino de Cordelia 2013), Las decepciones (Literal/Conaculta 2014), La redención (Reino de Cordelia 2016) and the children's book Salvemos al elefante (Santillana, 2017). She has written numerous academic articles on comics and graphic novels. She is the author of two academic essays: Hispanic comics (Cátedra 2003) and Ten essays to think about comics (Eolas/Univ. León, 2017) and a monograph on Chris Ware.
About Manuel Vilas Vidal
Manuel Vilas is one of the leading Spanish poets and narrators of his generation. His poetry books include titles such as Resurrección (2005), Calor (2008) and El hundimiento (2015), all published by Visor. In 2022, the publishing house Lumen published an extensive anthology of his poetry entitled Una sola vida. He is the author of the novels España (2008), Aire nuestro (2009), Los inmortales (2012), and El luminosa regalo (2013), all published by Alfaguara. In 2018, he published the novel Ordesa, which became an international success, translated into more than 20 languages. Ordesa was the book of the year for many Spanish media outlets, such as “Babelia”, “La Vanguardia”, and “El Mundo”, in addition to winning the prestigious Fémina award for the best foreign novel published in France. In October 2019, he was a finalist for the Planeta Prize with his novel entitled Alegría, which has also been translated into several European languages. In 2023, he won the Nadal Prize with his novel entitled Nosotros, which recently appeared in Italy, France and Portugal. In 2024, his novel El mejor libro del mundo was published.
