Julia Romano: Gardens in the Gaze
Julia Romano (1978, Santa Fe, Argentina) is a visual artist who graduated from the National University of Córdoba, Argentina). Since her beginnings in artistic practice, she deploys a hybrid range of references, techniques and resources that include photography, video, drawing, installation and collage, among others. In her work there is a constant tension between the analogue and the digital, the artisanal and the technological where the searches indicate a reflection on the gaze and the gaps or intersections between what is built and what is real. Her main reference is the landscape and its representation in the history of art, in her ways of tying together visual stories, she configures montages that update beauty in less ideal conditions than the classical notion. In her work she reflects on the sensory and experiential aspect of nature in the territory and raises the possibility of creating one's own landscape through personal stories. In this conference, the artist will present the video "Gardens in the Gaze" (with English subtitles) and then she will show some digital collage works emphasizing key concepts that she uses to create her landscapes.
