Thousands of languages exist in the world, their purpose is for different human groups to communicate. International relations have their own dynamics, which require the search for common points of understanding. International organizations, without forgetting multilingualism, have opted for languages that favor relations. A dozen languages have become instruments of mutual understanding and Spanish is one of them. In this lecture, linguist Rafael Rodríguez-Ponga will discuss the role of the Spanish language in this context.

About the speaker:

Rafael Rodríguez-Ponga, linguist, language professor and Rector of the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU (Barcelona, Spain), is the Cooordinator of the book Las lenguas en los organismos internacionales (2023), former Secretary General of Instituto Cervantes and President of the Spanish Association for Pacific Studies.
