Spanish doctor Patricio Serra discusses rates of the UK's most common form of cancer, as well as its evolution and keys to prevention.


Melanoma skin cancer is the 5th most common cancer in the UK overall (Cancer Research UK statistics). The incidence of melanoma has grown considerably in the last 30-40 years in the UK, mainly due to predisposing factors (e.g.: fair skin) and habits of exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun.

On the other hand, huge progress has been made in the last 10 years in the understanding of melanomagenesis and treatment of this cancer. Immunotherapy was named biggest Breakthrough in cancer treatment in 2013. And the story continues...
