Spain and the UK: A Television Dialogue Between La Movida and Peak TV
The Instituto Cervantes Manchester and Leeds continue with the seventh edition of the Hispanglia series, coordinated by Professor Duncan Wheeler (University of Leeds), with the conversation "Spain and the UK: A Television Dialogue Between La Movida and Peak TV" featuring Concepción Cascajosa.
Spain and the UK have maintained a fertile dialogue through television over the last 40 years. British series such as Upstairs, Downstairs remain an icon of prestige and quality in Spain, but British counterculture also sneaked onto the screen as a synonym for creative freedom, in musical programmes such as La edad de oro and fiction such as The Young Ones. More recently, during a golden age of serialised fiction known as Peak TV, Spanish series such as Locked Up and Élite are gaining popularity in the UK. During this dialogue, we will review different milestones in the relationship between Spain and the UK through television and what they say about the cultural evolution of both countries
