Jorge Juan: a scientist in George II's England
Anne BravoNext conference of Hispanglia is about Jorge Juan, a Spanish scientist and traveller who was part of the expedition that measured the earth. In the talk, the authors explain his role as a spy in the United Kingdom, during George II period, intending to learn about the technical advances of England at the height of its Industrial Revolution. The talk is by the historian José Calvo Poyato, who has written a novel about Jorge Juan, and the journalist Jesús García Calero, a specialist in underwater archaeology.
