Intermediate Reading Group : Las bicicletas son para el verano (I)

The Library of the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester invites you to join our Spanish Reading Group!

This is a great opportunity for all Spanish language learners to explore Hispanic literature in a friendly and welcoming environment tailored to your level.

For our September session, we're inviting intermediate students (B2+) to read and discuss Las bicicletas son para el verano, a beloved play from contemporary Spanish theatre by Fernando Fernán Gómez.

It's the summer of 1936, and Luis must stay in Madrid with his family to study. Despite doing poorly in his classes, he tries to convince his father to buy him a bicycle so he can go out with a friend. The argument drags on, but everything is put on hold when the Spanish Civil War breaks out.

We'll be diving into the play over two separate sessions to make it a little easier for everyone, with the first part scheduled for September and the second for October.
