Interview with Laura Hojman and poetic reading of Machadian poems with actress María Estévez-Serrano Varios

On Thursday 16th September at 6.00 pm UK time (GMT +1), the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester and Leeds will have the pleasure of hosting an online event with the Andalusian documentary maker Laura Hojman and the actress María Estévez-Serrano. Such occasion will be mainly a tribute to the universal poet Antonio Machado, one of the greatest of the last century and a capital figure for Hispanic literature. Our director, Pedro Eusebio, will interview Hojman to introduce her documentary film Antonio Machado. Los días azules (The Blue Days). We will be able to enjoy it online from the following day, Friday 17th September, in a 48-hour viewing window.

Pedro will chat with Laura about various aspects of the creative and research process of the film, about the ins and outs of the shooting, and the tour of the final work by festival and contests; about Hojman's personal fascination with Antonio Machado, too. Throughout the conversation, we will stop to listen to the warm voice of María Estévez-Serrano, who will recite live a careful selection of Machado's poems.

Laura Hojman has a degree in Art History, she has developed her career as a screenwriter, documentary maker and producer at the helm of Summer Films. In 2018 he made his directing debut with Tierras Solares, a feature-length documentary inspired by the work of Rubén Darío that premiered in the official Doc España section of SEMINCI (Valladolid International Film Festival) and went through festivals such as the Seville Festival, the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival, Scopes or IberoDocs (Scotland). Antonio Machado. Los días azules is her second feature film as a director, which brought her the Best Direction award at the ASECAN Andalusian Film Awards. Hojman is also the president of the Andalusian Association of Women of the Audiovisual Media (AAMMA).

María Estévez-Serrano develops her career as an actress, poet and playwright between Spain and the United Kingdom. Her tribute to Federico García Lorca, “Verde, Agua y Luna” has been twice awarded with the prizes for Best Theater Production and the Runner-Up for Best Performance by the Latin UK Awards (LUKAS). María combines her artistic work with teaching and also has a degree in Philosophy by the UAM University (Madrid).
