El Castillo [The Castle]
In Argentina’s sparsely-populated La Pampa province, Justina lives with her teenage daughter, Alexia, in an enormous mansion. After decades of service to its previous owners, Justina has inherited the property—but its upkeep is proving difficult to afford.
64 hectares of misty land connects Justina to long-gone spirits. Alexia, meanwhile, lives life in digital HD, fuelled by Formula 4 videos and dreams of a fast-paced career.
With parallels to Grey Gardens (1975), El Castillo observes the nuances of a supportive mother-daughter relationship shaped by the class and racial tensions of Argentinian society.
