Day of the Dead Manchester Mexican Society

Instituto Cervantes in Manchester, Mexican community and Colibrí Mexican Folkdance organise a special evening so as to celebrate the Day of the Dead.

Acknowledge Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, this Mexican holiday gathers friends and families around an altar, and they pray for the loved ones who have died.

The Day of the Dead is celebrated the 31st October, the 1st and 2nd November, and coincides with All Saints’ Day of the Roman Catholic calendar. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using calaveras, candles, marigolds flowers, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed.

An altar will be expressly created for its exhibition at Instituto Cervantes, and the Mexican Society will give a brief talk on the origins and meanings of this holiday, the video “La Llorona” * Coco Movie be screened. 

Finally, the event will be followed by the special participation of Colibrí Mexican folkdance who will dance two songs in relation to the celebration.
