All About Spanish Cinema and a Bit More
The Instituto Cervantes Manchester and Leeds begin the seventh edition of the Hispanglia series, coordinated by Professor Duncan Wheeler (University of Leeds), with the conversation "All About Spanish Cinema and a Bit More" featuring Professor María Delgado. The discussion will cover changes in Spanish cinema in the context of a broader cultural landscape, as well as topics like interpretation, direction, and the links between theatre and film.
María M. Delgado is Vice-Chancellor and Professor at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (University of London). Among her most recent publications are the books 'Other' Spanish Theatres: Erasure and Inscription on the Contemporary Spanish Stage (Manchester University Press, 2003, expanded version in Spanish, «Otro» teatro español: Supresión e inscripción en la escena española de los siglos XX y XXI [Iberoamericana-Vervuert, 2017]), Federico García Lorca (Routledge, 2008), and the collective volumes Contemporary European Theatre Directors (Routledge, 2020) and Contemporary European Playwrights (Routledge, 2020). She has worked as a correspondent for the Spanish theatre section of Plays International, Western European Stages and The Theatre Times, and frequently collaborates with the BFI's film magazine, Sight & Sound.
