A Place in the World

A Place in the World (desconocido)

This film by Adolfo Aristarain earned the label of a classic from the day of its premiere. It is a milestone in the career of a director who had already been characterized by his skill of being able to bend genres —especially with films with crime at their heart— to the demands of his style as a wonderful storyteller. In this case, there is praise for the idealism and the ability of human beings to empathize and try to change the world which managed to move all the viewers who saw it at the time of its release. In the group of four wonderful mature leading actors, the geologist played by José Sacristán as part of the plot displays his enormous capacity as an actor to identify with characters whose way of reading a situation is always commitment.

Synopsis: Ernesto takes a trip to the Argentine province of San Luis, to a remote town in a valley, to remember his childhood and the circumstances that determined his life: his parents voluntarily exiling themselves from Buenos Aires to live in a peasant community. The arrival of a Spanish geologist, hired by the local leader to search for oil, represents a threat to the peasants' way of life.
