Live at Lunchtime: An Introduction to Zarzuela: a Selection of Highlights of the Spanish Lyric-Dramatic Genre
The Instituto Cervantes Manchester, in collaboration with The Iberian and Latin American Music Society, is delighted to present for the third consecutive year a concert dedicated to zarzuela, a lyrical genre with its roots in 17th-century Spain. This time, we will enjoy "An Introduction to Zarzuela: a Selection of Highlights of the Spanish Lyric-Dramatic Genre," performed by the acclaimed Spanish pianist Ricardo Gosalbo and the award-winning Colombian soprano Julieth Lozano.
The concert is part of Live at Lunchtime, a series of performances aimed at showcasing artists of different musical genres at the well-known mancunian venue The Bridgewater Hall. In this evening, attendees will be transported to Madrid in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries through the lyricism of zarzuela music.
The program is divided into four parts, featuring famous acts from renowned zarzuelas such as La tempranica, La verbena de la Paloma, and Chateau Margaux, among others.
Julieth Lozano, a Colombian soprano, winner of the Dame Kiri Te Kanawa audience prize at the Cardiff Singer of the World 2023, graduated with a Master's in Vocal Performance and an Artist Diploma in Opera from the Royal College of Music under the tutelage of Dinah Harris. An Irene Hanson and Independent Opera at Sadler’s Wells scholar, Julieth was a 2019/20 Young Artist at the National Opera Studio in London.
Ricardo Gosalbo, a Spanish-French collaborative pianist, musical director, educator, and researcher, works as a vocal coach at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he teaches Hispanic music. As a devoted advocate of this music, Ricardo combines his duties as artistic director of the Hispanic Music Series in London with his doctoral research on Spanish vocal music.
